Under the Lamp, Night Alley, Black and White Street Photography

The lamp lights the brick and not much else. A figure stands beneath it, mostly shadow, the cobbles just visible at the edge of the pool of light. Whatever is happening here, it happened a moment ago or is about to. The alley could be any century.

There is something in this kind of night photography that colour would completely undo. The grain, the dark, the single source of light, it only works in black and white.
